"The Mission Statement of the Church" ✝️

Today, we come to the mission statement of the church.

A mission statement is essential for the trajectory of any organization. It determines the final outcome. It tells you whether you are failing or succeeding. And it’s the same for the church… except the mission statement in the church is not written by entrepreneurs, it’s not drafted by a board of directors, it’s not created by a pastor… it’s breathed out from the mouth of God.

And what we have here in Colossians is so simple. “We proclaim Him.” Christ is front and center. He is our focus. He is who we look at. He is the message we declare!

But many churches have inserted their own agenda. They have provided their own method… appealing to the culture, attracting people, relying on arguments, programs, and worldly wisdom. But what you hope to gain, you will lose. Because if those methods were to work, the focus would be removed from Christ and to the man… his method.

So Paul brings us back to proclamation. “We proclaim Him… admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom.” The method, the mission, and the means are all found in the proclamation of Jesus Christ.

And throughout this passage, we see that proclamation is straightforward speech. It is telling it as it is. It is making Christ known. It is the Word of God and the Spirit of God working together so that every man may be presented complete in Christ.
