"We Must Speak" ✝️

Last week, we looked at the Christian paradox… joy and suffering… how do they work together? And today, we turn our attention to the next part of Paul’s conclusion here in Colossians… the mystery revealed, the truth proclaimed, the gospel message to all.

Now many Christians find another paradox in the preaching of the gospel. “Preach the gospel at all times, and use words if necessary.” You’ve heard it before. The thought behind it is that your life can bring men and women to the Savior… that people will somehow come to know Jesus Christ just by watching our lives, by seeing our kindness, by witnessing our sacrifice… without a word.

But when we come to Scripture, we find something very different. God’s Word must be spoken. It must be known. It is the Word of God that opens people’s eyes… that brings the light of God into the hearts of men… it is the only thing that can pierce the darkness.

And we see it everywhere in the Scriptures, and we see it here in Colossians. It’s all about proclamation. “We proclaim Him.”

Paul says he was made a minister so that he might fully carry out the preaching of the Word of God. And as we walk through these verses, we see the character of proclamation… the minister, the message, and the mystery.
