The Essentials of Prayer 🙏

Prayer is absolutely central to the Christian life. People want to know how to pray and what to pray for, because they need guidance, wisdom, and help. But when they go looking for answers, they find all kinds of ideas… some treat prayer like a formula, some like a negotiation, some like a list of requests, and others think it doesn’t really do anything at all.

So the question becomes...

What are the essentials of prayer?

What does Scripture actually teach?

As we come to Colossians 1:9, Paul says, “we have not ceased to pray,” showing us that prayer is not occasional… it is ongoing, it is continuous.

And this prayer is not centered on self, but directed toward others… toward their spiritual growth and that they would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will.

Because prayer is not about getting what we want… it is shaped by His will, grounded in His truth.

Ultimately, prayer changes us… bringing our thinking and our desires into alignment with what God is doing.
